What Is A Temperature Sensor

A high quality Temperature sensor is one that can sense temperature and convert it into a usable output signal. Good temperature sensor is the core part of temperature measuring instrument, there are many varieties. According to the measurement method can be divided into contact and non-contact two categories, according to the sensor material and electronic components can be divided into thermal resistance and thermocouple two categories.

Temperature is a physical quantity that characterizes the degree of cooling and heating of an object, and is a very important and universal measurement parameter in the process of industrial and agricultural production. Temperature Measurement and control play a very important role in ensuring product quality, improving production efficiency, saving energy, production safety and promoting the development of national economy. Due to the universality of temperature measurement, the number of temperature sensors ranks first among all kinds of sensors, accounting for about 50%.
High Quality Temperature Sensor
High quality temperature sensors are indirectly measured by an object changing certain characteristics with temperature. The characteristics of many materials and components change with the change of temperature, so there are quite a lot of materials that can be used as temperature sensors. Good temperature sensor with temperature and cause physical parameters change are: expansion, resistance, capacitance, and electromotive force, magnetic properties, frequency, optical properties and thermal noise and so on. With the development of production, new temperature sensors will continue to emerge.
Because the range of temperature measurement in industrial and agricultural production is extremely wide, from a few hundred degrees below zero to a few thousand degrees above zero, and the temperature sensor made of various materials can only be used in a certain temperature range.
Contact temperature sensor
The contact mode between the high quality temperature sensor and the measured medium can be divided into two categories: contact and non-contact. The contact temperature sensor needs to maintain thermal contact with the measured medium, so that the two carry out sufficient heat exchange to reach the same temperature. This kind of sensor mainly includes resistance type, thermocouple, PN junction temperature sensor and so on. The non-contact temperature sensor does not need to contact with the measured medium, but through the thermal radiation or convection of the measured medium to the temperature sensor, in order to achieve the purpose of temperature measurement. This kind of sensor mainly includes infrared temperature sensor. The main feature of this temperature measurement method is that it can measure the temperature of moving substances (such as the bearing temperature of a slow moving train, the temperature of a rotating cement kiln) and objects with small heat capacity (such as the temperature distribution in integrated circuits).
